As the afternoon drew closer to an end, and offices began closing, ACS opened its doors to the Captain, Sergeant and Deputies of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's monthly Muslim Community Affairs meeting. With only their third meeting, the Muslim Community Affairs group has already attracted many. Attendees from all areas and all ages filled the conference room to participate. The L.A. County Sheriff's Department formed the Muslim Community Affairs group to connect with local Muslim and Arab American communities and provide assistance wherever needed. Sergeant Abdeen expressed the department's eagerness and availability to work with the Muslims of Southern California. The meeting began with a brief introduction and a warm welcome to the community members interested in networking with the department's Muslim Community Affairs. This was followed by a brief presentation on the Muslim American Homeland Security Congress (MAHSC) and a presentation on Southern California's current gang situation. The meeting concluded with a group discussion on the Jail Tour at Twin Towers Correctional Facility, current events, and plans for future events the community can do, in correspondence with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. ACS, along with the local Arab American and Muslim communities, is very grateful to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department for forming this group and following up with the community in regards to current trends and issues existing today. With this joining of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department and the local Southern California Muslims and Arab Americans, a hope for a positive change is not too far in sight.
