CAAO Meets with Detroit Police to Discuss Beating Death of Arab American
Wednesday, August 27, 2008, representatives of the Congress of Arab American Organizations (CAAO) and the family of the late Maher Almaweri, the 21-year old Yemini American that was beaten to death last week at a gas station in Detroit, held a special meeting with the Detroit Police Department to discuss their concerns about this horrific crime.
The concerned parties pledged their commitment to continue their active engagement in pursuing all efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. “We commend the Detroit Police Department for their aggressive and swift investigation of this murder,” said Imad Hamad, ADC Michigan Regional Director. “This is another sad tragedy that our community must endure. We as a community are determined to see that this crime does not go unsolved.”

ADC Michigan expresses its deep condolence to the family of Maher Almaweri, a 21-year-old man who was murdered at a gas station on Detroit’s southwest side last Thursday. ADC Michigan calls upon the Detroit Police Department to conduct a thorough and swift investigation to identify and bring the assailants of this hate motivated act to justice. ADC will be working with the family and the community in an effort to assist in bringing closure and justice to this senseless act.
