Washington, DC | September 4, 2007 | www.adc.org | The American-ArabAnti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) will be represented live in Arabic by Kareem Shora, National Executive Director, on the Al Arabiya news channel today at 3:00 pm EST (10:00 pm in most of the Middle East). Shora will be discussing today's opening of the New York based Khalil Gibran International Academy (KGIA). KGIA has been targeted with relentless anti Arab and anti Muslim bigotry from conservative columnists, several officials, The NY Post, and The NY Sun since the school was announced in February. The KGIA is opening in partnership with New Visions for Public Schools, which is a nonprofit group that has helped to create many of New York City's new smaller schools. The plan for the school is to offer a standard college preparatory course, with the addition of daily Arabic language instruction and a focus on international relations. KGIA initially will offer only sixth grade class but will expand yearly until it includes grades 6-12. It will be housed in an existing middle school, a practice common in the New York school system. The school received the support of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. As with all live television programming, the show is subject to change without notice.
