The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) in consultation with the United States Treasury Department will host a day long event at the Treasury Department Headquarters on Friday, August 15, 2008, focusing on “Charitable Principles of Good Governance and Anti-Terrorist Financing.”  This initiative is a culmination of continued dialogue between the Department of Treasury and ADC over the last several years.  This is the first time the Treasury Department has hosted such an event with the Arab and Muslim American communities, and is a significant step in ensuring that the voices and concerns of the communities regarding charitable giving are addressed.

Government agencies taking part in this initiative include the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). A number of other civil rights agencies will also be in attendance.  Arab and Muslim community leaders from across the country will be representing a number of diverse non-profit organizations as well. 

In light of the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadan, ADC views this as a valuable opportunity to openly discuss matters of vital importance regarding voluntary donations, and the charitable giving guidelines adopted by the Treasury Department in 2006.
