Arab American Leaders REV'd up after a Successful Conference in Michigan PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 August 2008
Access California Services (ACS) joined Arab American leaders from human service agencies across the country in Dearborn, Michigan, last week for the National Network for Arab American Community's (NNAAC) Civic Engagement and Communications Conference.  The conference was well attended and included leaders from network organizations in California, Florida, New York, Illinois and many other sites. Executive Director Nahla Kayali and Associate Director Rashad Al-Dabbagh represented ACS at the conference.
Participants engaged in discussions about civic engagement and the role it plays in their organization.  Topics covered included engaging voters and recruiting volunteers, communicating with elected officials and candidates and spokesperson training.
Overall, the conference was a success and participants left with a better understanding of civic engagement and the knowledge and tools to begin to incorporate these activities into their work plan.
The Conference was part of the REV Campaign: Register, Educate, Vote, recently launched by NNAAC.  Goals of the campaign include registering Arab Americans to vote, turning the community out to the polls, and educating the community on the importance of civic engagement.
