Last week, in a special press conference at the Capitol in Lansing, Senator Hansen Clarke and Representative Paul Condino announced the Bias Motivated Crime Act, which is legislation intended to replace Michigan’s current Ethnic Intimidation Act.  Michigan Department of Civil Rights Director Linda Parker, Lansing Police Chief Mark Alley, and Washtenaw County Prosecutor Brian Mackie also spoke in support of the legislation.
ADC Michigan’s Director of Policy & Community Affairs, Nadia Fadel, participated as a steering committee member in the Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crimes (MIAAHC) strategic planning meeting in Lansing, prior to the press conference.  Following the meeting, Fadel joined the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, along with legislators, police officers, prosecutors and civil rights activist in the press conference to support the introduction of the Michigan Anti-Bias Crime Statute.
