Arab American Comedy Festival - This Friday! PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 21 August 2007
On August 24, 2007 Arab American actors, actresses, and comedians will take the stage at the Ford ImageCommunity and Performance Arts Center in efforts to humanize the Arab experience. It will be an evening of sketch comedy and short film, written, produced, directed, and performed by Arab Americans.
"As a community-oriented company, we are proud to be the presenter of this festival which has been designed to break down barriers and demystify stereotypes surrounding Arab Americans," said Sonny Mandouh, Co-Founder of Mizna. The festival features an ensemble of local actors, including Dearborn's own Brian Mosallam. The Saturday Night Live-inspired sketches range in theme from "A" Date, "The premiere Arab dating service" to a Bogart-like character that is reunited with the love of his life, Djouida. The evening will also feature a musical number from MUSLIM: the musical!; A one-man show written from the perspective of a young Arab living in New York City during 9-11.
This Friday at 7:00pm, eleven actors will take the stage to make a full house laugh and think about life in America from an Arab American perspective. "The show promises to be accessible to both Arabs and non-Arabs alike. Our hope it to show Arab American culture for all of its richness, beauty, and hilarity," says Mike Mosallam, Artist Director of the festival.
