The Arab American Professionals Network has chosen this year's "Arab American Professional of the Year" from four industries: education, medical, financial, and legal. The AAPN recognizes successful Arab American professionals in the Detroit area that serve as mentors and role models for young Arab Americans. Join us at our banquet to congratulate our awardees and support their continued success. The program for our evening of "Celebrating Success" is sure to please our guests. We look forward to welcoming you on May 22, 2008.
This years honorees will be:
Education: Edward J. Bagale
Vice Chancellor for Government Relations at The University of Michigan-Dearborn, Edward Bagale has served as the University's chief government relations officer since 1985.  He represents the University to public agencies and elected officials in Lansing, Washington, D.C., and local governmental units and agencies throughout Southeastern Michigan. 
 
Medical: The late Farouk Obeid, M.D.
Dr. Farouck Obeid was a renowned trauma surgeon, critical care specialist, and community leader.  Well respected and accomplished in his profession, Dr. Obeid was instrumental in leading both Henry Ford Hospital and Hurley Medical Center to be certified as Level I trauma centers as determined by the American College of Surgeons.  From 1999 until the time of his death, Dr. Obeid was Division Head of Trauma & Surgical Critical Care at Hurley Medical Center in Flint.  In 2005, Dr. Obeid established and led Hurley's Bariatric and Minimally-Invasive Surgery Center.
Financial: Mohammed (Mo) Sabbagh
Vice President in Retail Financial Services with JP Morgan Chase. He is a proud member of the Dearborn/Dearborn Heights business community, and Branch Manager of the local Chase Bank at Ford Road and Outer Drive, in Dearborn Heights.
 
Legal: James C. Thomas
Well-respected criminal defense attorney who joined Plunkett Cooney as an Of Counsel attorney in the firm's Detroit office in 2006. During his more than 30 years practicing criminal defense in complex federal and state matters, Mr. Thomas has successfully defended clients in some of Michigan's highest profile criminal cases, including corporate executives, politicians and professional athletes.
The AAPN is a committee of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce, supporting the chamber mission, recruiting new members and building awareness of chamber programs. The AAPN serves as a knowledge bank, support system, means of member promotion and professional skill development, and provides opportunities for social and career growth.
