Imam Hassan Qazwini, spiritual leader of the Islamic Center of America, has returned from a three-week Imagetrip to Iraq. Imam Qazwini had the chance to visit the shrine of the great Imams, Imam Ali in Najaf and Imam Husayn in Karbala. Imam Qazwini also had a chance to meet with various community and religious leaders in Iraq, including Grand Ayatullah Sayed Ali Al-Sistani. They discussed Muslim affairs in the United States among other issues. Furthermore, Ayatullah Sistani conveyed his salaam as well as his prayers to the entire Muslim community in the United States.
Imam Qazwini also had the chance to visit the site of three major developments that his father, Ayatullah Sayed Murtadha Al-Qazwini, has undertaken. He visited the "Al-Imam Al-Hujja Hospital" in Karbala, which when completed will be the largest hospital in Karbala with 180 beds and eight floors. The project will cost around $35 million.
Secondly, he visited the "Imam Husayn Orphanage", which opened in October 2007. Currently the orphanage houses 220 orphans and upon completion of the third phase will house 500 orphans. With 5 million orphans, Iraq has the largest number of orphans in the world. Thirdly, Imam Qazwini visited the Islamic Howza that Ayatullah Qazwini is constructing which will accommodate around eighty students.
