Part of series of outreach actions, the Moroccan Ambassador, Mr. Aziz Mekouar, recently made a trip and spoke in front of a business audience at the Irvine Chamber of Commerce in Orange County , CA. He spoke about investment opportunities in Morocco , the advantageous conditions provided to foreign investors. He fielded questions from the audience on renewable energies in morocco, on investment in the health sector. The emergence of retirement facilities for northern Europeans in morocco elicited a great interest, followed by related questions on necessary services to western retirees that move to Morocco .The trip was organized and coordinated by Mr. Adil Naji of Arabesque, Inc., the event was sponsored by the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, FTR International, a global contracting and engineering firm. The media coverage was provided by Mostapha Saout of MoroccoBoard. The daily orange county newspaper, The OC Register, reported on the visit and on investments in Morocco the following day.A dinner at the exclusive shady canyon country club was held the following evening, the Mayor of the city of Irvine , Beth Krom, came to greet the ambassador and spoke of a desire to develop economic relations with Morocco . She was invited along with a business delegation from Orange County to come and visit Morocco and prospect for new opportunities. She was given a Moroccan crafted tea pot as a symbolic gift.The following day, the delegation drove north on interstate 5 to Los Angeles, CA, where a town-hall meeting for the Southern California Moroccan American Community was organized and held at the downtown Marriott hotel. The event room was overflowing and following a brief speech by Mr. Mekouar, the attendees lined up to ask various questions. There were inquiries relating to import/export issues and the need for more transparent and readily available information to potential importers and exporters, others bemoaned the lack of transportation options between Morocco and the US, the sole Royal Air Maroc flight between NY and Casablanca is a drop in the water and is of no help to both Moroccan Americans or potential visitors. There were requests for help to entice American airline companies to open up new routes to Morocco . Mr. Adil Naji of Arabesque, Inc., spoke extensively on the benefit of MAC (the Moroccan American Coalition) that is currently being organized and its potential for streamlining communication among various Moroccan American Communities around the country The trip ended with a visit to the film set at universal studios in Hollywood to watch a shoot of the popular CSI television series. The delegation was invited by the show producer and a friend of Morocco, Mr. Naren Shankar. The star of the TV show, Mr. William Petersen, greeted the Moroccan delegation and expressed his desire to visit Morocco with his wife. He was promptly invited to come and discover the cinematic potential available in the South of Morocco.
