Board member, Tarik Daoud was recently awarded the first National Award for Citizen Diplomacy by the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy. Mr. Daoud was honored for being a leader in business and philanthropy as well as for working to promote cross- cultural understanding through the International Visitor's Council of Detroit. He believes American citizens can change perceptions "one handshake at a time." "I think it is the responsibility of every person in this country to be a citizen diplomat," says Daoud. "We cannot let the government do all of the work. That's impossible." U.S. citizens were nominated based on accomplishments and/or activities that have increased mutual understanding, strengthened ties, promoted international cooperation and developed peaceful relations between people of the United States and other countries.
