ACCESS and the Arab American National Museum are pleased to announce the achievement of the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan's matching gift of $350,000.
In 2006, the AANM was one of only six institutions out of 56 considered to received a $150,000 grant by raising $300,000 through the first matching opportunity and was then selected among 81 other organizations for a second matching opportunity to receive a $350,000 if they raised $700,000.
"What is so significant is that we are the first to cross the finish line. Out of 81 competing organizations we are the first and only one yet to maximize and receive a total of $500,000," said CFO, Maha Freij.
This is a great leap for the AANM's overall goal of building a $5 million endowment considering it will generate 10% of the Museum's annual operating expenses. It ensures that the Museum will continue to tell the story of Arab Americans for many years to come.
"We are overjoyed and grateful for this success. The credit goes to all the people who have been there for the AANM and who believe in our mission and I thank them from the bottom of my heart," said Freij.
The Arab American National Museum is the first dedicated solely to the preservation of Arab-American history and is located on Michigan Avenue in Dearborn. The Museum showcases the rich and diverse heritage of the Arab-American community, highlighting the contributions Arabs have made and continue to make in the United States.
