The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) thanks the community and public officials for participating in last Sunday's March against hate and violence in Antioch, after the August 12th arson attack on the Islamic Center of the East Bay (ICEB). The March was initiated by words of support from public officials, including Senator Tom Torlakson, James Hyde, Antioch Chief of Police, Abdul Rahman, ICEB board member, and numerous other representatives. Thereafter, community members from varying faith and secular backgrounds and public officials joined the March to ICEB.All participants gathered in front of the Islamic Center, where ICEB president Mohammed Chaudhry said a few words of encouragement."Our strength is not in hatred; our strength is in unity," said Chaudhry. "We enjoy the same sunshine; we breath the same air; If God doesn't discriminate, why should we?"The March concluded with a brief report from CAIR president Shafath Syed on Muslim Civil Rights, followed by community leaders praying for peace.
