The University of Michigan-Dearborn's School of Management and the American Arab Chamber of Commerce will bring 15 entrepreneurs from Yemen to Dearborn in October. The 15 entrepreneurs will act as interns at local businesses for two to three weeks, observing and improving their business skills. Annette (Asmaa) Jamil and Mohamed Bayou in center. Earlier this year, UMD professor of accounting Mohamed Bayou traveled with AACC Board Member Asmaa Jamil and Ali Shami, to Yemen for phase one of the program. The U.S. group organized presentations around the completion of a 14-page business plan. Presentations lasted all day and were given to about 90 small-business entrepreneurs in Sanaa, the capital city of Yemen, and to about 45 more entrepreneurs in Aden. The AACC and SOM will arrange the visits and internship positions in businesses in the metro Detroit area. The American Arab Chamber of Commerce is an organization that works to foster trade and improve relations between Michigan based companies and the Middle East. Its mission is to build economic bridges, and as Susan Bazzi, Managing Director of the AACC, indicated, "The potential for business growth in Yemen is huge and this program seeks to invest in the business men and women of that country in a manner previously overlooked by similar projects." She adds, "The American Arab Chamber of Commerce is very excited to be a part of this unique program that will surely reap dividends for the business community in Yemen for years to come."
