Its the first week of the first month of your first year in America's busiest city. That's stressful enough, except you're fasting too. But the Islamic Center has it all taken care of. We invite you to join us for a free iftar dinner every night of this blessed month.
It doesn't matter if you're new to the community or have been here for years. We're welcoming everyone. It's all part of what makes the Islamic Center differe...nt,... and what's going to make your years here so unforgettable. This Ramadan, experience what community should feel like.
Free iftar dinners for every taste, from Carribean, Italian and Mexican, to soul food and subs and South Asian, Lebanese and Chinese, Persian and Morrocan, and much, much more. For those who are looking for a quiet place to study and reflect during the day, our prayer room is open every weekday as well. We will also be holding lectures and discussion groups on a variety of topics throughout the month, insha'Allah. And at the end of the month, we will be celebrating Eid al-Fitr on-campus with prayers and brunch. Just some of the many services we offer here at the Islamic Center. __________________________
The Islamic Center has traditionally observed the opinion of following a local moonsighting in determining the start and end dates of the Islamic Months. Our staff will meet on Tuesday, August 10th, (Shabaan 29th) to determine the start of Ramadan. An official announcement will be sent out as the date nears. __________________________

HOW YOU CAN HELP Coordinating daily iftar preparations is a lot of fun but it is also a huge responsibility and trust. As such, we need all the help we can get. This help can take three forms, depending on your ability: time, money and food.
Setup/Clean-up: Volunteers are needed on a nightly basis to set-up and clean-up the the food and prayer areas. Volunteers should be available at least 45 minutes before sunset to set-up and expect to spend 30 minutes cleaning up after services. If you would like to sign up to help on specific days and times, feel free to email us at admin@icnyu.org. Please include your name, contact information and availability.
Sponsor an Iftar: On average we provide food for 250 - 300 guests and costs can range from $700 - $1000. We look to the community at large to help by sponsoring a night, half a night or any amount that is possible. Every donation will be greatly appreciated.
Food is ordered nightly from local halal restaurants. For this reason, there is a consistent need for liquid funds. If anyone wishes to donate by check, please make it out to New York University. Donations can also be made online and more information can be found at www.icnyu.org/ramadan. All donations made are tax-deductible.
If you have a preference for a type of food or a specific restaurant that you like, please let us know.
Cook for the Community: If you would like to cook food for an iftar, you are more than welcome to do so. Please contact us at admin@icnyu.org to discuss further options. __________________________
