The American Association for Palestinian Equal Rights Foundation (AAPER Foundation) is an educational organization whose mission is to educate the American public about the history and human rights of the Palestinian people, and the role of the United States in the Middle East. AAPER Foundation seeks a highly-motivated, hardworking, dynamic and detail- and results-oriented Development Director for its Washington, DC office. The Development Director will be responsible for leading the implementation of AAPER Foundation's fundraising strategy and activities, financial reporting and fiscal administration. The Development Director's specific responsibilities will include:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning
Lead development and implementation of AAPER Foundation's fundraising strategy (with emphasis on major donor solicitation, foundation grant-seeking, special events and planned giving) and calendar
Work with staff to prepare project-based funding proposal
Develop planned giving program and materials
Record, monitor, assess and report fundraising results
Fundraising
Maintain and cultivate relationships with existing donors
Research, identify, and develop relationships with, prospective donors
Develop and supervise donor appreciation practices
Maintain database of donors and potential donors, including donor information
Plan, execute and represent AAPER Foundation at fundraising events
Research and identify grant opportunities
Prepare, and oversee preparation of, grant applications
Maintain grants calendar and records
Communications
Oversee production of fundraising materials, including informational packets and presentations
Manage fundraising communications, including direct mail and email appeals, website appeals and acknowledgement letters
Management
Develop an effective development team of staff, interns and volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS
Five or more years of corporate, non-profit or public policy experience (experience in nonprofit development desirable)
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable
Ability to manage staff and budgets
Knowledge of the Palestinian issue and U.S. policy toward Palestine
Commitment to Palestinian human rights and a just U.S. policy toward Palestine
Excellent public speaking ability
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including a outgoing personality
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Experience with fundraising databases desirable
Ability to travel periodically
COMPENSATION: Competitive salary (commensurate with experience), health and dental insurance and four (4) weeks annual vacation.
